JBT FoodTech Named One of
‘The Best Companies to Work for in Brazil’

In October 2008, the JBT FoodTech business in São Paulo was named one of “The Best Companies to Work for in Brazil,” by the Great Place to Work® Institute Brazil, an affiliate of the Great Place to Work Institute, Inc., based in San Francisco, Calif., U.S.A. The 2008 award marks the ninth time JBT FoodTech (formerly FMC FoodTech) has ranked in the top 100 in the 12 years the award has been given.

“We are truly honored to receive such a prestigious award,” said Juan Podesta, vice president and division manager of JBT FoodTech’s Food Processing Systems Division. “It is truly a tribute to our exceptional employees who make JBT FoodTech a great place to work.”

The entire list of companies named best to work for in Brazil was published by ÉPOCA magazine, a Brazilian weekly publication that focuses on news and analysis.

Spanish Citrus Exporter Selects
JBT FoodTech to Outfit Processing Plant

JBT FoodTech signed a $6.7 million USD contract in a new citrus processing project with Valencia, Spain, based Zumos Valencianos del Mediterraneo, S.A. (Zuvamesa). Zuvamesa, a consortium of 57 of the largest fresh citrus exporters in Spain, recently constructed a juice production facility and has selected JBT FoodTech to provide a comprehensive line of processing equipment, from the initial unloading of the fruit at the plant through citrus juice and pulp production. This new Zuvamesa facility will produce not-from-concentrate orange juice primarily for major local retailers, as well as for export into the growing European citrus juice market. The facility is scheduled to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2009. JBT Corporation Announces Two Major
FoodTech Orders Totaling $28 million

JBT Corporation announced two JBT FoodTech contracts worth in total $28 million. Both orders are scheduled for delivery this year.

The first contract involves coating, frying, cooking and freezing solutions for a new meat and poultry plant in North America. The process solutions were developed together with the customer in JBT FoodTech’s state-of-the-art Food Processing Technology Center in Sandusky, Ohio, U.S.A.

"This project is an excellent example of what JBT FoodTech does well for our key customers, from the early development of the proper processing techniques, to the installation and start-up of the equipment and the eventual service and applications support of the processing lines," says Torbjörn Arvidsson, Vice President and Division Manager for JBT FoodTech’s Food Solutions and Services Division.

The second order is for an automated batch retort system for a European processor with operations in the United States. The new system will provide leading technology to process a wide range of packaging configurations while reducing labor costs and improving energy efficiencies.

“We are pleased to win this order,” said Juan C. Podesta, Vice President and Division Manager of JBT FoodTech’s Food Processing Systems Division. “This system marks yet another important milestone for JBT FoodTech as it continues to lead the development of state of-the-art automated food sterilization systems.”

JBT Corporation Announces Major
FoodTech Order for $10.5 million

JBT Corporation announced a major contract worth $10.5 million. The order is scheduled for delivery this year.

The contract involves an integrated cooking and freezing solution for a frozen dinner plant owned by a North American packaged foods company. The integrated system will enable the company to deliver new ready meal products.

"We are pleased to continue to provide our food processing customers with integrated systems that enable them to deliver new ready meal products," says Torbjorn Arvidsson, Vice President and Division Manager for JBT FoodTech's Food Solutions and Services Division.  

No spout required with new aseptic technology

The JBT FoodTech business in Parma, Italy, is in the final stages of testing and introducing a new application that can aseptically fill pouches without the need for a spout. The spoutless aseptic filler was designed to improve flexibility for processors that fill a wide range of pouch sizes for the foodservice market. The opening of the pouch can be up to 2 inches (6 cm) wide, which means processors can fill particulates more quickly and potentially at a lower cost, making it ideal for functional food products and specialty juices. The compact-sized filler can accommodate pouch sizes that range from 11 pounds (5kg) to 22 pounds (10kg); and from 6 pints (3 L) to 21 pints (10 L). The first commercial units of the Spout-less aseptic filler will be available in the first quarter of 2009.

Personnel Announcements

Chris Hanssen has been promoted to account manager for processed foods in the upper Midwest of the United States. He will be based in JBT FoodTech’s Northfield, Minn., U.S.A. facility. Hanssen joined the company in 1995 as an aftermarket representative for the Frigoscandia product line. Since then, he has served as freezer applications specialist, freezer applications support manager and, most recently, R&D technical development for North America. Hanssen holds a bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield.

Terry Irvine has joined JBT FoodTech as Canadian account manager and will be based in Guelph, Ontario. Irvine is responsible for managing JBT FoodTech’s product portfolio in the Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec regions, as well as all eastern Canadian provinces. Irvine has more than 20 years of experience in the food processing industry. He holds a bachelor’s degree in food and dairy science from the University of Guelph.

IPA World Food Process Exhibition 2008

JBT FoodTech introduced the new Ultra V Breader, part of the Ultra V family of versatile breading, coating and mixing products. Trade professionals from all industries within the food sector attended the show, which showcased 600 companies from 25 countries that exhibited more than 150 new products.

JBT FoodTech exhibited its global post-harvest portfolio to a record attendance for Asia Fruit Logistica. Members of JBT FoodTech’s sales and technical teams from China, India, The Philippines, Thailand and the United States introduced the Sta-Fresh 2952 and Sta-Fresh 2981 high-performance pineapple protective coating systems and a range of food safety technologies, including the new Bin Scrubber System; and showcased the company’s post-harvest solutions for everything from citrus to apples to pomegranates to litchi to dragon fruit.
