New safety interlocks survive
the toughest operating environments

JBT FoodTech announces two new safety interlock solutions developed specifically for the needs of the food industry, the J-Switch Safety Interlock and the J-Lock Mechanical Safety Interlock System. The fully documented and tested J-Lock Upgrade Kit and the J-Switch Upgrade are now available for the DSI 714 and 624 waterjet portioning systems.

Safety interlocks offer protection to machine operators and sanitation personnel by detecting the correct position of machine guards and access panels. JBT FoodTech recognized the need for a more robust safety interlock system capable of surviving high pressure wash

down, acidic and caustic cleaning chemicals, temperature cycling and time-pressured maintenance.

For customers who want to simply replace their safety interlock switches with a far more durable design, the J-Switch Safety Interlock is the right choice. The J-Switch is machined from a single billet of stainless steel and employs a stainless steel cable gland nut over a proprietary potting compound, enabling it to survive the kind of tough operating environments common in the food processing industry.

For customers who would prefer to completely eliminate exposed wiring and electrical troubleshooting of safety interlocks, JBT FoodTech offers the J-Lock Mechanical Safety Interlock System. This system replaces electrical switches with mechanical devices employing a captured stainless steel key. To see how the J-Lock Mechanical Safety Interlock System works, view a
video demonstration.

High-performance fans increase freezer capacity

GYRoCOMPACT® freezer fans can now be replaced with upgraded fans that increase airflow while utilizing existing GYRoCOMPACT motors. This update usually requires little or no modification to install, and offers an immediate return on investment by boosting freezer capacity. For example, the standard fans in the GC76 freezer can supply 46,200 cubic feet per minute at 3" of static pressure, while the new upgraded, high-performance fan will generate 61,000 cfm, resulting in a 32 percent increase in airflow for the same base load.

Additional efficiency benefits of the high-performance fan upgrade’s increased
airflow include:

  • Better utilization of the freezer fan motor horsepower
  • Better temperature in the freezer
  • Longer freezer run-times
  • Change in frost characteristics
  • More tons of refrigeration out of existing coil with higher airflow

Lubricant Spotlight: Formula 420 Gearfor gearbox motors

Greater food safety awareness, both by consumers and within the food processing industry, has increased the global demand for food-grade lubricants so food quality is not impacted through contact with equipment lubricants. JBT FoodTech recently introduced Formula 420 Gear lubricant for gearbox motors to meet this demand for all new GYRoCOMPACT® spiral freezers. Formula 420 Gear is available to European, Asian and Latin American users of JBT FoodTech equipment.

Formula 420 Gear lubricant is an advanced NSF International H1 registered food-graded gear lubricant, approved for general incidental contact and designed specifically for JBT FoodTech custom-made gearboxes. Some benefits include constant lubrication performance even at low temperatures to -58°F (-50°C), corrosion and wear protection for longer component lifetime, and higher energy
efficiency due to less friction.

This lubricant fully complies with the EC Directive EN 1672-2 on Hygiene Requirements for the food processing industry and is available in 5-, 20- and 200-liter containers.
